It had high NOX readings. I bought a new O2 sensor and a Flowmaster catalytic convertor, which did the trick and the Jeep passed emissions. The downside is that there is extreme pressure pushing oil out of the dipstick tube and I had to purchase another catalytic convertor last year. I realize I must perform a leakdown test to see what exactly is going on inside the engine. Would it be more cost effective to rebuild it than swap it out? It’s only got 149,000 miles. I do plan on keeping the Jeep, upgrading the axles, and putting on a 2 1/2-inch Skyjacker lift kit. My other plan is to upgrade to a Ford 5.0L truck engine and get an AX-15 transmission. What is the best bang for the buck option? It already has a Gale Banks header and an Airaid intake. The Jeep is a blast to drive on- and off-road, and with the 4.10:1 ratio axle gears it moves out nicely!Sean Jennings Via email Except in extremely rare cases, an engine rebuild or a remanufactured crate engine will always be more cost effective than an engine swap. Engine swaps have many costs and complexities that are often overlooked. These costs add up quickly and include things like the wiring, adapters, engine mounts, radiator, ex...

The duffel bag has gone a long way since it was first conceived as a heavy duty, canvas bag used for packing belongings in the late 1600s. Primarily used by sailors and later by those in the military service, these knotted carryalls were preferred because of the its practical shape, sturdy material, and spacious compartments. It has since found its way into mainstream fashion and has become a style staple especially among the jet-setting pack. Since its appropriation, the good old duffel bag has undergone several iterations. It has evolved through use of new materials, prints, patterns, and other innovative details. Today, this travel essential is as versatile and varied as the types of lifestyles we now embrace. Here, a rundown of investment-worthy duffel bags to take you from the gym, to a weekend out of town or a quick getaway to bucket list destination. Intreciato Duffel Bag from Bottega Veneta...

Composite leaf springs: Saving weight in production : CompositesWorld

Chevrolet’s Corvette has included transverse composite leaf springs, manufactured by Liteflex (Englewood, OH, US), since 1981. The most advanced metal forming, fabricating, welding, and finishing machinery and products will be showcased in

The most advanced metal forming, fabricating, welding, and finishing machinery and products will be showcased in three halls of exhibits at FABTECH® 2018, sited at the Georgia World Congress Center (GWCC) in Atlanta. “If you’re not moving forward, you’re moving backward.” “If you’re not moving forward, you’re moving backward.” —multiple authors Inspirational quotes about moving forward number in the hundreds, no doubt because they’re true, whether advancing on the football field, the race track, or in metal component manufacturing. Racing teams don’t win by driving backward, football teams don’t win championships by standing still, and metal fabricators don’t succeed without advancing. Just ask legendary college football coach Steve Spurrier, or racing icon Kyle Petty. Literally; ask them—because metal formers, fabricators, welders, and finishers attending the 2018 FABTECH Expo in Atlanta, Nov. 6–8, will have the opportunity to do so. Spurrier and Petty are among the keynote speakers (see Special Events below). “The world changes. If we don’t change along with the world, we get left behind,” Petty remarked in an interview with The FABRICATOR®. Moving forward lays the path towar...

Electric Ford Mustang to Debut at Goodwood Festival of Speed

The electric horseman from the U.K.’s Charge Automotive will beat Ford’s own Mach E out of the starting gate. The U.K.’s Charge Automotive has announced that it will roll out this Ford Mustang EV at the 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed in early July. Unlike Ford’s long teased and fully modern Mustang-themed Mach E EV, the Charge Automotive Mustang EV is more of a restomod, based on the 1967 Mustang fastback. Sadly, it will not be making a run up the hill at Goodwood, but rather will spend its time chilling—and, no doubt, charging—on display in Michelin’s supercar paddock. The good news, though, is that Charge Automotive tells C/D the Mustang EV will be available to U.S. buyers. Charge has trotted out a few of the critical numbers, but some details remain unclear. With a quoted 885 lb-ft of maximum torque to all four wheels, a sub-four-second zero-to-60-mph time, and a top speed of 149 mph, the Charge Mustang EV is certainly no slouch. A 64.0-kWh battery pack gives a claimed 200 miles of range, and its 50-kW DC charging should provide for reasonably fast recharges; the car will also provide for user-selectable rear- or all-wheel-drive modes. The moto...

By now, you all know that I often talk about my beautiful 87 year old mom

By now, you all know that I often talk about my beautiful 87 year old mom in my posts, particularly as it relates to the health, well being and independence for seniors. In the past few years, she’s taken to using a cane, and occasionally even a walker, to assist with her mobility and stability. These mobility aids have provided her security and safety and given her more confidence to continue her active and busy life, so her insight on this topic was particularly important. As I began to research and write this post, I was honestly amazed by the myriad of options for canes and walking sticks. What once was a standard wooden, curved handle cane has morphed into lightweight, but incredibly sturdy aluminum tool. Many of today’s canes fold into a nifty small size for simple carrying in a purse or messenger bag. Some have LEDs to light your way in the dark and can make unlocking your car a lot simpler. They can even expand, with portable seats that allow users to take a brief rest in long lines or at outdoor events. These make dealing with the day’s activities simpler, and they’re simply a lifesaver when it comes to managing airports, with their often substantial lines and delays. M...

Distillery Moves from Artisinal Spirits to Perfume | 2018-11-02

La Distillerie de Paris distillery is run by Sébastien and Nicolas Julhès, two brothers who have been creating artisanal gins, vodkas, brandies, aged spirits and whiskeys. Now, they have launched their very first eau de parfume, which comes in bespoke box and bottle packaging by Quadpack (quadpack.com). The brothers apply the art of a perfumer to create an experience in each spirit. With the new fragrance, they have applied the art of distilling to perfumery. The alcohol from the still is expertly treated and used as the basis for an eau de parfum for men and women.  Together with La Distillerie de Paris, the Quadpack team came up with a 100ml-thick glass bottle with a unique shape that reflects the brand’s background. Its elongated, spherical form features rounded edges and a generous shoulder unusual in perfumery, but typical of a spirit bottle. In a distinctive blue, the words ‘Made in Paris’ are embossed into the glass — a statement that declares its unique status as the only fragrance made in the city.  The wooden cap is similarly reminiscent of the world of spirits. Made of sustainably sourced ash at the Quadpack Wood factory, it has a burnt top inspired by the wooden barr...
